Trianel Gasspeicher Epe starts tender process for highly flexible storage product

Epe, Aachen. Trianel Gasspeicher Epe GmbH & Co. KG (TGE) has started to market highly flexible storage capacities for the storage year 2022/2023. The storage product with a total storage volume of 210 GWh on an interruptible basis is as of today up for the tender process.

A total of six bundles with a working gas volume of 35 GWh each are offered in two tender processes. The first tender process with three lots ends on 17 June 2021, 11:00 (CET), the second tender process with the remaining three lots ends on 17 June 2021, 14:00 (CET). The term for all bundles is 12 months, running from 1st of April 2022 until 1^st of April 2023. Each bundle has an injection capacity of 200 MW and a withdrawal capacity of 400 MW. The bundles allocated in the first auction will be interrupted subordinated to the bundles allocated in the second auction.

Since 2020 the storage product includes the possibility of using firm working gas volumes (acquired on a secondary basis). Furthermore, gas volumes are able to be transferred to other storage customers. Thereby successful bidders get higher certainty for their planning. They also benefit from higher flexibility when utilizing their bundles. Additionally, the product contains a contractual provision whereby an extended reduced availability of working gas volume is compensated by a reduction of the fixed storage fee.

Since 2008, TGE has operated a natural gas storage facility consisting of four salt caverns in Gronau/Epe (Westphalia), with a working gas volume of approx. 190 million cubic meters. It is one of the fastest storage facilities in Germany and owned by 16 shareholders, mostly municipal utilities.
